How to Get an Itemized Receipt from a Restaurant

Date: Oct 29, 2026 Updated: Nov 3, 2026

The easiest way to get an itemized receipt is to ask your server or the cashier before you leave. If you already left, contact the restaurant with the details of your visit.

Ask at the Table

Request an itemized copy when you ask for the check. Tell the server you need each item listed separately, for example for a reimbursement or to split costs. Some restaurants can reprint it from their system.

If You’ve Already Left

Try contacting the restaurant and asking for a copy of your receipt. Staff often get these requests from business owners, sales executives, or employees traveling on business.

Can You Call a Restaurant for an Itemized Receipt?

Yes, you can call or email the restaurant. Make sure you have information such as the date, the check number, and your card information (last four digits), and the total charged so that a staff member can look up your purchase.
