What Is a Monthly Saver?

Date: Oct 27, 2026

A monthly saver can either refer to a type of savings account or a person that sets money aside once a month on a regular schedule. In either case, it reflects a commitment to saving an amount each month.

How a Monthly Saver Works

Some banks and credit unions offer accounts marketed as monthly savers, often with set deposit rules. Terms vary, so read the fee, rate, and withdrawal details before opening one. You can also act as a monthly saver using any regular savings account.

A common approach is a recurring transfer a day or two after payday. Moving money automatically means you do not have to remember or decide each time.

Choosing an Amount

Start with what fits your budget. Here are a few examples:

  • $10 a month builds $120 in a year.
  • $50 a month builds $600.
  • $200 a month builds $2,400.

Interest would add a little to the total savings amount, depending on your account.

If your income changes, pick a small baseline and add more in better months. Skipping a month during a hard stretch does not undo your progress.
